Volunteers have assisted us in various ways - working directly in the nursery with the children, offering training on primary methods to teachers and assistants, teaching English, demonstrating jewellery techniques etc. Here are some of the people who have helped us over the last two years.

Our volunteers
We are profoundly grateful to those generous and kind-hearted people who have volunteered with us. We have achieved more than we ever thought possible over the 2 years since our fist one arrived. People have helped us in so many ways and we welcome enquiries from anyone who might be interested in coming to work with us - try it! You will learn a lot about yourself too, if the experience of our former volunteers is anything to go by.
Gemma - taught in the nursery in the mornings and taught English for adults in the afternoons over 3 months.
Lauren - made working in the nursery her Duke of Edinburgh gold Award project and brought her friend James to work in the nursery with he r for 3 weeks.
Vincent - enjoyed playing sport with the children and taught English to a men's group.
Jules and Lies - held jewellery and beading workshops.
Matthew, James, Sam and Chris - helped in the nursery and did some spectacular science experiments!
Kathleen - helped organise the women's sales and record- keeping.
Brittney - taught Primary 2, helped organise the office, set up records and systems over 4 months
Karen - is currently teaching in Primary 2 and is helping develop the feeding and family health programme. She is also doing a brilliant job in organising the storage and retrieval of our school materials.
Rosas - organised a wonderful course on photography which is to continue in 2010
Vincent - held a holiday fun club for Primary 2 teaching games, art and English. He also taught English to the staff in the mornings.
Chris - will be helping the co-operative write a business plan and set up their systems for accounts. He will also be organising information and data on our activities over the last 2 years.
Karen 2 will be joining us for 5 months in 2010 to work on the family health programme and help to train the women's football team.
For the future
We need teachers to work in the classes alongside Rwandan colleagues and provide in-service training opportunities for the teachers and assistants on particitpatory teaching and learning, particularly in science and mathematics.
We need teachers of English, especially if you are prepared to work in the evenings to teach the parents at their request.
We need artists to work with the children and the adults
We need help with sports and games for people of all ages.
BUT!
We are sorry but we have no money to pay you for your work and you will need to fund yourselves - please write to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for an application form and an information pack.
